If you have been thinking about trying cannabis, then keep reading
For decades mainstream media has bombarded us with the stereotypical ‘male stoner’ persona, but that’s all changing. There is nothing limiting cannabis to just men, and more women than ever are switching to cannabis for a variety of different health benefits. The best estimates are still currently 2:1 in favor of men favoring cannabis over women, but it’s slowly changing.
For many women, the stoner stereotype and the link to illegal activities have been two of the biggest factors steering women away from trying cannabis. With the legalization of cannabis and the legalization of medicinal marijuana across Canada, Mexico and North America cannabis has never been more accessible.
Along with easier, and legal, access to cannabis, more research is being undertaken into exactly what health benefits cannabis has to offer and what specific benefits cannabis could have for women.

How Does Cannabis Work?
Cannabis is made up of a variety of different cannabinoids. The two main cannabinoids which make up the largest percentage of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is responsible for the euphoric high many people experience when they ingest cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD doesn’t get you high and will actually work in conjunction with THC to lower the anxiety levels some people experience when they ingest cannabis strains with a high THC percentage.
Cannabinoids work in conjunction with the bodies endocannabinoid system or ECS. The ECS is responsible for maintaining harmony and balance and is located largely in our central nervous system. The ECS is made up of hundreds of receptors. Cannabinoids like THC and CBD bond with the receptors and produce a reaction much like the natural endocannabinoids our bodies produce.
What Benefits Does Cannabis Offer Women?
There are several different health benefits associated with cannabis that apply to both men and women. Cannabis can be effective at treating a variety of different mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Cannabis can be a great way to regulate your menstrual cycle if you suffer from irregular periods. It can also be great if you suffer from intense pain or discomfort during your menstrual cycle. During some stages of your menstrual cycle, the interaction between the uterus, cannabinoids, and endocannabinoids such as anandamide—the so-called “bliss molecule” are more important than brain interactions.
If you are having trouble enjoying sexual activity, cannabis can be an extremely effective way of improving your sex life. Women generally require lower amounts of THC, so look for strains with lower levels of THC.
More and more women are making a conscientious effort toward trying cannabis. One of the great things about cannabis is that it has a variety of different delivery methods which makes it extremely versatile. You can smoke cannabis flower, vape cannabis flower, and oil, ingest edibles and even apply it topically as an ointment or cream.
